My Moan - Where You Can
Have A Good Old Whinge!

My Scotland Newsletter > My Moan

This is another page on Discover Scotland dedicated to your comments, where you can not only have your say, you can have a right old whinge.

Everybody has something to gripe about, those annoying little things that get right under your skin, up your nose, or just make you want to scream.

My old granny used to say "If something's annoying you, let it out", and that's what you can do here. Just send it in and have it published!

The 'My Moan' star letter, was sent in by Patrick Ryan, from United Kingdom .....

Having decided to venture out to Largs to take in the pleasant surroundings and finish off some of the day by having a spot of lunch, accompanied by my wife and an elderly friend we managed to park on the main street opposite THE BAGEL BASKET, hence our reason for choosing this particular place to eat. Initially i personally sensed an unpleasant atmosphere or maybe i was too quick to criticise, however my sixth sense proved otherwise. After seating ourselves and not knowing how they operated it apparantely came to light that you ordered at the main serving area paid upfront for your orders which i felt left you in an awkward position if you did not savour their food, but anyway the service was dismal and i mean that by basically everything we ordered arrived at the table at the same time. When i questioned the waiter about this his reply was 'well you did order all of this'. I know we did i replied. Basically, what anyone would have expected was to be served in stages of the food that we ordered.

I believe he knew we weren't happy with the food and the service, he blatantly made no attempt to rectify anything. It was more or less you've paid for your food take it or leave it. On leaving, i did comment to the waiter at the door that his food was crap,(harsh words maybe?) but his reaction was to say i deal with people like you all the time and to add insult to injury he suggested there were more places to eat and don't bother coming back so make of that what you wish. I would like the person in question to defend himself if he wishes and explain his unprofessional approach to customers who he gave, like myself, reason to complain.

P.S please forward this message to the manager for his attention. I hope the chap at the door with the apron on wasn't the owner.(GOD HELP US)

More of your moans .....

Violet, United States, says :

The one thing that irritates me the most are the parents who do not supervise their children in supermarkets, etc. They let them run riot all over the place and God forbid you say something, which I have, and got some dirty looks for at that, plus a few nasty comments. I felt at the time my commenting on the kids being out of control was after two children got in a pushing fight and a very large box of laundry detergent fell on my foot. I could hardly walk for days. Would never have happened with my kids back in those days, they knew better than to misbehave.

Robert McBride of Glenrothes, Scotland, says :

Hi, my moan is about those infuriating pop-ups that play havoc with my computer. I click onto a website and there's a pop-up about to appear. I have a pop-up blocker that usually works, but some of these are really determined. The website is not loading up, the pop-up is trying to appear, and my blocker is trying to stop it. My screen then freezes, and when I try to shut down the window, I get a message saying "this programme is not responding". After numerous attempts it finally shuts down, and I then have to re-open Internet Explorer. The most annoying thing is, this happens with some reputable websites. Why do they persist with these things? Do they not realise this is not a "good customer experience"?

Hear! Hear! Robert! I wholeheartedly agree, they should be banned!

Ann McGhee of Kilmarnock, Scotland says :
I hate phoning companies where you get those awful automated systems with all the different options. I usually end up pressing options 1,3,2,1,3,4 then a voice tells me I'm in the queue and I have to listen to annoying music for God knows how long. By the time I finally get to speak to a human being I'm really stressed out.

James Hardie of East Kilbride, Scotland says :
What really annoys me is drivers who don't indicate, especially on roundabouts. It's just bad manners.

Helen Reeves of Toronto, Canada says :
My moan is people who stop to chat in supermarket doorways really get my blood boiling. Do they not realise that other folks are trying to enter or leave the supermarket? Why can't they just move inside, or preferrably outside?

Jamie McDonald of Ayr, Scotland says :
I'm always moaning about our football referees. They get more decisions wrong than they do right, no wonder they're sponsored by Specsavers!

David Mitchell of Ripon, England says :
My moan is about websites where you go round in circles. You're on a page, click a link to another page, then another, and land back on the page you started on without the info you were looking for to begin with.

Some of the things I've moaned about .....

Spam emails - So annoying.

Supermarket checkouts - Trying to open the plastic bags.

Telephone sales - They always ring at awkward times.

My sincere thanks to all of you for sending these in to "my moan". If you're reading this and you have something to say, please Send Me Your Moan.
