Wallace and Robert Bruce

by James Clare
(East Kilbride, Scotland)

Stumbled upon your website, and is really great.

Just to help you with your history

(you confess that this is not your forte!)...

William Wallace was not striving to achieve his dream of Scotland becoming an independent country. Scotland had always been an independent country, for many hundreds of years before him.

Wallace was fighting a force which had invaded and occupied his country.

It is extremely unlikely that Wallace and Robert Bruce did not meet. In fact there are many indications alluding to the occasions when they did meet.

I hope that helps a little, and that you're not too offended by a smart-alec. I will now enjoy the rest of your brilliant site.

James Clare

Editor's comment :

Thanks for this great contribution James.

With regards to your first point, I accept that this could have been worded : "Wallace was striving to achieve his dream of Scotland REMAINING an independent country."

On the second point, Wallace and The Bruce MAY have met, but there is STILL SOME DOUBT as to whether or not they did.
